The IMPRS Summer School 2021 was a great success!

Various lectures and tutorials on Machine learning attracted the interest of a diverse group of participants

From the 27th to the 29th of September 2021 the biannual IMPRS ProEng Summer School took place in a hybrid format. Researchers from the IMPRS were able to join in person and non-IMPRS members had the chance to follow all the lectures via an online live stream.

In the course of eleven different lectures and tutorials, outstanding experts shared their knowledge and competencies around the overall topic of "Machine Learning for Process and Systems Engineering". The Summer School was started on Monday by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, the spokesperson of the IMPRS. This was followed by five outstanding lectures. On Tuesday there were given interesting tutorials on the introduction to MATLAB and how to use it. This was followed by a fascinating lecture on "Data-Driven Optimization in Dynamic Systems: Solutions, Structure, and Control" in the afternoon.

The IMPRS-members then had the possibility to join the social event. This year a scientific scavenger hunt was planned to introduce some of the most interesting scientists who have a connection to the city of Magdeburg. All participants reported back that they had a lot of fun doing the different tasks in order to get the next hint for the following destination. After the long but amusing day, everyone deserved to attend the cozy conference dinner at the Elbelandhaus, where the IMPRS researchers met again with the various speakers of the Summer School.

On the following day, three different lectures rounded off the IMPRS Summer School perfectly. Everyone had the opportunity to learn more about the interesting topic of Machine learning and to get to know their colleagues better while building a network.

Thank you to all the speakers and participants who made this year's Summer School, although taking place in a slightly different -hybrid- manner, a great success!
We are looking forward to seeing you all again in the next Summer School!
