Ernst Dieter Gilles Lecture Award
With the Ernst Dieter Gilles Lecture Award, the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems honors outstanding scientific achievements in the field of systems theory, system dynamics, control engineering and systems biology in memory of its founding director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. mult. Ernst Dieter Gilles, who passed away in 2019.
Ernst Dieter Gilles had an unparalleled influence in the world of System Dynamics and Control through his visionary ideas, his leadership and his numerous technical contributions. As the founding director of our Max Planck Institute from 1996 to his retirement in 20078, he played a unique role in shaping the future of systems engineering research in Magdeburg.
The Max Planck Institute Magdeburg will present this award for the first time in 2023, commemorating the pioneering scientific work of its founding director in the wider field of systems science.
The Max Planck Institut Magdeburg has selected US chemical engineer Prof. Martha Grover as the first prize winner. She has made outstanding methodological contributions to the process dynamics and process control of complex process engineering and biological systems.
With conferring the Ernst Dieter Gilles Lecture Award, the institute hopes for intensive scientific cooperation with Martha Grover and her home university in the near future.
