Thermal Process Engineering

Major research interests

  • Transport phenomena in particle systems and porous materials
  • Drying
  • Particle and layer formation processes (granulation, coating, agglomeration, encapsulation)
  • Fluidization technology
  • Discrete modeling (pore network models, CFD-DEM, Monte Carlo models, among others) and scale transition to continuous approaches (e.g., advanced species transport models, multivariate population balances)
  • Morphological characterization of porous media, incl. 3D imaging

Possible research projects (not exhaustive)

  • Selective pyrolysis of mixed plastic waste and biogenic residues
(Collaboration partners: Prof. Thévenin, Prof. Kienle)
