Ronny Zimmermann successfully defended his PhD thesis!
Research focused on “Computer-Aided Catalyst Pellet Design for Load-Flexible Fixed-Bed Reactor Operation”
Ronny Zimmermann started his journey within the IMPRS programme on May 3, 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Kai Sundmacher and his mentor, Prof. Jens Bremer. On January 18, 2024, he successfully defended his PhD thesis on “Computer-Aided Catalyst Pellet Design for Load-Flexible Fixed-Bed Reactor Operation” with ‘summa cum laude’.
Ronny Zimmermann's doctoral research addressed the complex challenge of storing excess renewable energy in methane, known as the power-to-methane process. The research focused on the design of the catalyst pellets that convert hydrogen and carbon dioxide into methane in the fixed bed reactors used. His innovative approach used core-shell catalyst pellets to regulate pronounced temperature fluctuations during load-flexible operation, enabling efficient large-scale methane production.
Zimmermann acknowledges the pivotal role of the IMPRS programme in shaping his interdisciplinary interactions and honing his presentation skills. Through engaging conversations and collaborative presentations, he gained insights into placing his research in a broader context and improved his presentation skills.
