Mathematical Modeling Approaches
Motivation
Mathematical modeling plays a crucial role in analyzing and understanding biological systems. Even in well-established culture systems for manufacturing of biologicals there is much to be learned about the molecular biological properties of production cell lines, the dynamics of cell growth and product formation, and the complex interaction of cells with their physicochemical environment in a bioreactor. Combined with results from extensive experimental investigations ranging from the cellular to the bioprocess level, mathematical models not only help to explain basic system’s properties but also support the detailed analysis of its behavior and the optimization of the overall process.
