MPI Series of Colloquia: Life Cycle of Artemisinin: from extraction to derivatisation and drug activity
This presentation is part of the MPI Magdeburg colloquium series. Everyone interested in this presentation is very warmly invited to come.
The talk will discuss issues around production of sufficient quantity and quality of artemisinin drug precursor based on conventional farming-extraction route, but focusing on environmentally-friendly solvents and processes. Conversion of artemisinin drug precursor into APIs using intensified continuous process will be briefly discussed as a potential approach to reducing the cost of the artemisinin-based drugs. The final approach to reducing the cost of drugs is modulating activity of API with other natural substances which possess synergistic interaction with artemisinins, increasing their potency.
