The Max Planck Society contributes to a sustainable world by its research in the fields of climate change, biodiversity and efficient use of resources. But what is the ecological impact of our own research work? We print articles and dissertations, we need toxic chemicals for our work, on the other hand we produce waste in labs and offices and travel to conferences by planes. Research is important to us, and as scientists or employees in a research organisation as the Max Planck Society science always comes first. But we believe that we can also make research itself earth-friendly. In the past years, colleagues in various Max Planck Institutes have founded "sustainability groups" with the objective to investigate how we can make research itself "greener". Now we would like to meet for the first time in order to exchange experiences and develop a common sustainability intiative for the Max Planck Society.
