FerMeVi: New sustainable fermentation processes based on molasses and vinasse

Molasses is a direct and vinasse an indirect by-product of sugar production from sugar beet or sugar cane. The aim of the project is to develop new microbial strains and fermentation processes for the efficient synthesis of valuable chemicals from these biogenic residues. To this end, an innovative approach is being pursued that combines mathematical modelling and computer-aided analyses with synthetic biology methods in order to optimize microbial strains for the molasses- or vinasse-based synthesis of selected chemicals. The long-term goal is industrial use of the developed processes and strains - with particular potential for Saxony-Anhalt.

Duration: 01.07.2024 - 31.12.2027
