Seminar: Geometric formulations of inviscid fluids and their discretization

We will study the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of inviscid fluids and how these geometric structures can be preserved in discretizations.

Topics:

  • Background (differential forms, pullbacks, geometric formulation of classical mechanics)
  •  Geometric formulations of inviscid fluids (Lagrangian, Hamiltonian, Clebsch variables)
  • Structure preserving discretizations of fluids (finite element based, spectral)
