"Oktober 1944. Mit sechsundachtzig Jahren steht Max Planck vor der schwersten Aufgabe seines Lebens. Der Nobelpreisträger soll ein «Bekenntnis zum Führer» verfassen. Viel hängt daran, denn Plancks geliebter Sohn Erwin, der am Hitler-Attentat vom 20. Juli beteiligt war, sitzt im Todestrakt von Tegel. Planck denkt zurück an frohe Tage und die dunkle Zeitenwende. Gefährten sind im Exil, vor allem vermisst er Albert Einstein. Der forscht in Amerika und widmet sich vielem, besonders den Frauen, allerdings gar nicht seinem Sohn Eduard, der in der Zürcher Heilanstalt Burghölzli mit seinen inneren Dämonen und dem fernen Vater ringt. Max Planck schreibt mit der Schwiegertochter Nelly Gnadengesuche für Erwin; dieser entdeckt die Weite des Daseins in einer Gefängniszelle. In der Berliner Reichskanzlei träumt Adolf Hitler vor einem Gemälde. Und Eduard Einstein erkennt, was die Welt im Innersten zusammenhält, während sein genialer Vater das Doppelspiel seiner russischen Geliebten nicht einmal ahnt." (Rowohlt Berlin)
