Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, director at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg and head of the Chair for Process Systems Engineering at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, has been elected to the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW) in June 2021.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW) is an interdisciplinary association of scholars with approximately 300 elected members – who are all outstanding representatives of their fields – and collaborates with scientists worldwide.

In a rather innovative form for the academic world in Germany, Academy members work on interdisciplinary projects with external and talented young experts on issues relevant to the future of society.

Professor Kai Sundmacher has been elected as a member in honour of his achievements in the engineering sciences, especially in process systems engineering.

His wide range of research interests focuses on multifunctional reactors, integrated processes, fuel cell systems, particulate systems, electrochemical membrane reactors, mathematical modeling and simulation, dynamics of chemical processes and synthetic biosystems.

Professor Kai Sundmacher has been officially inducted into the BBAW at the Leibniztag on June 5, 2021, in Berlin.
