Max Planck Institute Magdeburg Cooperates with Partner Group in Uruguay on Scientific and Poweraware Computing

April 10, 2018

Max Planck Institutes operate a worldwide network based on international cooperation and projects. Internationality promotes scientific performance and productivity; it creates a scientific added value. The Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems will intensify the exchange with its partner group at the Universidad de la República Uruguay (UdelaR) in Montevideo.

Energy-aware formulations of all kinds of computational methods and exploitation of special purpose and low power hardware are becoming more and more important.

Mathematicians of the Computational Methods in Systems and Control Theory group at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg will cooperate more closely with the Computing Engineering Institute at the Universidad de la República Montevideo, Uruguay, in their effort to make high performance computing more energy-efficient. The scientists from Uruguay and Germany will exchange their expert knowledge on the fundamentals of Numerical Linear Algebra and its implementation on Graphics Processing Units (GPus).

The Partner Group, headed by Pablo Ezzatti (El Instituto de Computación INCO), is funded by the Uruguayan Agencia Nacional de Investigación e Innovación (ANII) and the department Computational Methods in Systems and Control Theory, headed by Prof. Dr. Peter Benner at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg.
