Max Planck Institute in Magdeburg is presenting the Ernst Dieter Gilles Lecture Award for the first time
Lecture Award for US chemical engineer Prof. Martha Grover in recognition of her outstanding contributions to process dynamics and control
With the Ernst Dieter Gilles Lecture Award, the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg honors outstanding scientific achievements in the field of systems theory, system dynamics and control engineering in memory of its founding director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. mult. Ernst Dieter Gilles, who passed away in 2019. The first recipient of the award is the US chemical engineer Prof. Martha Grover, Professor at the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ernst Dieter Gilles had an unparalleled influence in the world of System Dynamics and Control through his visionary ideas, his leadership and his numerous technical contributions. As the Founding Director of the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg from 1996 to his retirement in 2008, he played a unique role in shaping the future of systems engineering research in Magdeburg.
"The institute is presenting this special award for the first time this year. It commemorates the pioneering scientific work of our founding director in the wider field of systems science," explains Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, Managing Director of the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg. "We have selected the US chemical engineer Prof. Martha Grover as the first prize winner. She has made outstanding methodological contributions to the process dynamics and process control of complex process engineering and biological systems. With the presentation of the Ernst Dieter Gilles Lecture Award, we hope for intensive scientific cooperation with Martha Grover and her home university in the near future," says Prof. Sundmacher.
Martha Grover is a Professor in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech, and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies. She holds a joint appointment with Savannah River National Laboratory, Jackson, USA.
Prof. Grover will give the Ernst Dieter Gilles Lecture on the topic „Continuous biocatalytic crystallization to address beta-lactam supply challenges“ on 14 December 2023, 4.00 p.m. at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg. Everyone interested in this presentation is warmly invited to join.
