Prof. Patrick Cramer and Dr. Simone Schwanitz visited Max Planck Institute Magdeburg
Designated President and Secretary General of the Max Planck Society visit Magdeburg
Prof. Patrick Cramer, President-elect of the Max Planck Society, accompanied by Dr. Simone Schwanitz, Secretary General of the Max Planck Society, visited the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg. The four directors and the administrative head of the institute, including the Executive Director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, welcomed the two MPG representatives on 31 January 2023.
Prof. Dr. Patrick Cramer, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, was elected by the Senate of the Max Planck Society on 23 June 2022 as the future President of the Max Planck Society for the term 2023 to 2029.
He thus succeeds Prof. Martin Stratmann in this office. By the time he takes office at the end of June 2023, Patrick Cramer would like to visit the Society's more than 80 institutes, and so he stopped off at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg on 31 January 2023. The desire to get to know the institutes also applies to the new Secretary General, Dr Simone Schwanitz, who took over the administrative head of the Max Planck Society at the beginning of 2022.
Patrick Cramer and Simone Schwanitz held talks with MPI staff members and gained insights into the interdisciplinary way of working at the engineering-based Magdeburg institute - from process design for vaccine production and green chemistry to research work in synthetic biology on artificial biomimetic systems.
