Prof. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern is President of the International Adsorption Society
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern, Director at Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg, has been appointed as the president of the International Adsorption Society (IAS) for the period from July 2019 to June 2022.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern was appointed as the president of the International Adsorption Society (IAS) in the course of the 13th International Conference on Fundamentals of Adsorption in May 2019 in Cairns, Australia. He has been the vice president of the IAS in the recent three years.
The conference is the largest and most important conference in the field of liquid and gas adsorption attended by the world leading scientists and engineers from academia, government, and industry. Prof Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern contributed a keynote lecture on the “Winding journey from adsorbents via thermodynamics and dynamics to efficient adsorption processes”.
The International Adsorption Society brings together about 400 researchers from throughout the world working in industry, academia and government to advance the field of adsorption in areas ranging from the fundamental molecular thermodynamics of adsorption phenomena to the design and application of industrially relevant separation processes. The process of adsorption is based on the specific enrichment of a target substance from a fluid phase at the surface of a dedicated solid phase.
IAS serves its members in several ways. Every three years IAS organizes the International Conference on the Fundamentals of Adsorption (FOA), the leading conference in the field. IAS has its own journal, Adsorption, published by Springer.
The main focus of the research of Prof. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern and his group is to develop advanced separation and reaction processes. For isolating specific target molecules out of complex mixtures they apply in particular crystallization-based, chromatographic separations and solid-liquid extraction. Studying the fundamentals of adsorption processes belongs to the main research interests of Prof. Seidel-Morgenstern.
