Sebastián López Castellanos awarded with prize by the Association of German Engineers (VDI)
Sebastián López Castellanos, Ph.D. student in the research group Process Systems Engineering at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg, was awarded by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) / District Magdeburg for his master thesis on Vesicles-On-A-Chip: A novel microfluidic-based method for the generation of giant unilamellar vesicles. The prize recognizes outstanding scientific contributions of young scientists and aims to promote young researchers.
The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg and head of the group Process Systems Engineering and by Dr.-Ing. Ivan Ivanov, team leader within the MaxSynBio-Project.
Sebastián López Castellanos received his bachelor degree in Molecular Biotechnology at TU Dresden and his master degree in Molecular Biosystems at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. He worked as a student assistant at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg from November 2016 to June 2018. In August 2018 he successfully defended his master thesis on Vesicles-On-A-Chip: A novel microfluidic-based method for the generation of giant unilamellar vesicles. He is a Ph.D. student in the research group headed by Prof. Sundmacher since April 2019. His main focus is on microfluidic based vesicle generation and encapsulation of enzymatic cascades.
