Prof. Dr.-Ing. Udo Reichl appointed as Managing Director

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Udo Reichl holds the office as the Managing Director of the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg since January 1st, 2019, to December 31st, 2020. Managing directors are appointed by a two year term out of the board of our four Max Planck directors.

Udo Reichl studied biology at Saarland University, Germany, and Chemical Engineering at Stuttgart University, where he gained his PhD at the Institute for Systems Dynamic and Control. After holding several postdoc positions he became head of virus productions at Pitman-Moore GmbH in Burgwedel near Hanover, Germany.

Since 1999 he holds the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at the University of Magdeburg. He was appointed Director at the MPI for the Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in 2000 as the head of the Department of System and signal-oriented Bioprocess Engineering. He conducted the foundation of the International Max Planck Research School Magdeburg in 2007 of which he was the spokesman from 2007 to 2013.

His major research interests are focused on animal cell culture technology, downstream processing of vaccines and biologicals as well as mathematical modeling of bioprocesses and cellular systems.
