Career Paths after the Doctoral Degree
The PhD Career Day provided a fantastic opportunity for PhD students and graduates to explore diverse career paths, network with industry professionals, and gain valuable insights into the job market.
On 11 March 2025, the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg hosted an engaging and dynamic event that brought together a diverse group of participants from the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, the Otto von Guericke University, and other institutions in Magdeburg like the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology.
MPI alumni – graduates from various countries and different fields, including industry, academia, government and entrepreneurship – shared their insights and experiences, offering a wide-ranging perspective on career opportunities and developments in their respective fields. The event provided an excellent opportunity for Ph. D. students and graduates to network, with a career coach from the Max Planck Academy of the Max Planck Society present to offer guidance and advice.
The full-day event included dedicated coffee breaks designed to facilitate informal conversations and connections, culminating in a joint dinner where attendees could deepen relationships and reflect on the day's discussions in a convivial setting. The informal nature of the event ensured that all speakers were approachable, fostering a welcoming atmosphere for questions and dialogue. Due to the positive feedback and success of the event, there is anticipation of continuing to host similar events in the future, building a sustained platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and career development.
