In the event of an impending global flu pandemic, vaccine production could quickly reach its limits, as flu vaccines are still largely produced in embryonated chicken eggs. Udo Reichl, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, and his colleagues have therefore been working on a fully automated method for production in cell cultures that could yield vaccines in large quantities in a crisis.

nanoCOPS: MPI Magdeburg cooperates with University of Wuppertal

The Research Group Computational Methods in Systems and Control Theory headed by director Prof. Dr. Peter Benner is part of the project nanoCOPS (Nanoelectronic Coupled Problems Solutions), which is coordinated by the University of Wuppertal. This interdisciplinary research project started November 1st, 2013 and combines advanced mathematical methods for multi rate time integration, co-simulation, uncertainty quantification and model reduction with methods for solving problems, which connect electro-magnetic effects, circuits, heat development and material exhaustion processes.
