Main Focus

My research lies at the crossroads of responsive soft materials, advanced manufacturing, and mechanics, with applications in medical engineering.

I am particularly interested in understanding and designing soft materials with unprecedented mechanical properties, such as extreme toughness and strength, ultra-sensitivity to stimuli, programmability, biocompatibility, and bioactivity, to effectively interface humans and machines and their intelligence.

Curriculum Vitae

I’m Hritwick Banerjee. I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems (MPI-DCTS), Department of Materials Systems Engineering, Germany (2026–present).

I received my Ph.D. at the Institute of Materials, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland (2025). Before this, I was working as a Jr. Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS), Germany (2019-20).

I was a Research Engineer at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore (2015-19). Before this, I spent a brief stint as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE) in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India (2014-2015).

I graduated with a Master's Degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT GN), and IIT Kharagpur with a dissertation titled “Frequency driven alteration in cellular morphology during ultrasound pulsing in a microfluidic confinement” (2014).

My career and personal goal is to impact human healthcare and create translational products while positively influencing students’ lives for as long as possible.
