The Max Planck Institute Magdeburg invites you to its series of colloquia. Top-class scientists, invited by the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg, give a survey of their research work. Everybody who is interested, is invited to attend.
Process
design is a multicriteria optimization problem. The first part of this talk is
dedicated to a review of adaptive scalarization techniques and their
application in chemical process design in an industrial context. This will also
include the treatment of uncertainties in model parameters.
In the second part of the talk, the use of machine-learning techniques in order
to overcome typical challenges in nonlinear optimization will be discussed for
specific examples. Among these challenges are, for example, the choice of
suitable starting points, the description of feasible regions and the search
for globally Pareto optimal points. An adaptive exploration scheme is presented
and its potentials and limitations will be illustrated.
