Sebastián Espinel Ríos has recently joined the University College Dublin as an Assistant Professor and lecturer.

We are proud to share that Sebastián Espinel Ríos, a former PhD student and member of our IMPRS program, has recently joined the University College Dublin as an Assistant Professor and lecturer (Ad Astra Fellow).

Sebastian finished his PhD thesis on modeling, optimization, and predictive control for metabolic cybergenetics under the advisory of Katja Bettenbrock, Steffen Klamt and Rolf Findeisen in December 2023. He went on to gain postdoctoral experience at Princeton University's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and at CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, before taking up his current position in Dublin.

In his new role, Sebastián focuses on digital twin technologies, model reduction, and knowledge transfer for bioprocesses. His work draws on computational methods for advanced modeling, optimization, and intelligent control to support the digitalization of the biotechnology industry, combining mechanistic, AI-driven, and hybrid approaches.

Seeing our graduates go on to build thriving independent academic careers is one of the greatest rewards for all of us. We are rooting for you Sebastián, congratulations on this well-deserved achievement!
