A Pandemic, an Anniversary, an Assembly, a Retirement and Appointments

• January 2020: The Max Planck Institute Magdeburg launched the Ernst Dieter Gilles Postdoctoral Fellowship.
• 2020 - 2022: COVID 19 Pandemic with implications on research, organisation of work and social contacts as well as scientific and public events
• April 2022: Research group Data-driven Modeling of Complex Physical Systems established (Dr. Feliks Nüske)
• June 2023: Honouring the 25th anniversary of the start of work of the MPI with the Symposium “Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems: Current Status and Future Perspectives”
• October 2023: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Sebastian Sager appointed Max Planck Fellow and Head of the Mathematical Optimization and Machine Learning research group
• December 2023: The Max Planck Institute Magdeburg presented the Ernst Dieter Gilles Lecture Award for the first time and honored the US-American chemical engineer Prof. Martha Grover
• 8 June 2024: 1st TomorrowLabs Festival, Sience Port Magdeburg - Science and future issues met music and culture
• August 2024: Retirement of the director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern
• November 2024:  New International Max Planck Research School for Systems and Process Engineering for a Sustainable Chemical Production granted. Runtime 01/2025 – 12/2030
• 24 June 2025: Re-constitution of the Board of Trustees at the MPI at the 19th meeting.
• 24 to 26 June 2025: The Max Planck Society hosted its 76^th annual meeting with 500 guests in Magdeburg.
• 1 October 2025: Prof. Dr. Sohini Kar-Narayan took up her full-time position as a new director of our Max Planck Institute. She heads the new Materials Systems Engineering department and brings her expertise in the field of functionalized materials systems and devices to the Magdeburg institute.
