The Computational Methods in Systems and Control Theory group at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg invites applications as a Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d).

Job description

The position is part of the third-party funded NFDI Consortium “Mathematical Research Data Initiative” (MaRDI), representing the field of mathematics in the German National Research Data Initiative (NFDI). The designated goal is to realize the FAIR Data Principles across the entire field of mathematics and its applications. Our goal is the development of both an extensive  enchmark collection and a benchmark framework for the evaluation and comparison of emerging algorithms on predefined test sets using comparable metrics. This includes developments  of metadata and ontologies as well as the development of appropriate software tools in the context of Model Order Reduction and related fields of the Computational Sciences and  Engineering. The position is also intended to support the project management, to represent the MPI Magdeburg in MaRDI task area meetings, and in work groups of the NFDI.

Expected requirements

We expect

  • An above average PhD in mathematics or a related field,
  • Ability to perform independent scientific work, problem solving, and presentation of results,
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the areas of
    • Research data management and research software engineering,
    • Knowledge of partial differential equation numerics and scientific computing,
    • Knowledge of model order reduction and surrogate modelling.
