Minicourse: Introduction to Python

Tired of struggling with Matlab? There are some alternatives! In this crash course, our PhD student Cheng Chi will give an introduction to programming with Python to better improve big flows of data and analysis.

As a high-level language, Python is easy to learn for both non-programmers and programmers. Its syntax is very clear and easy to understand. Thus, everyone can start programming right away even without a solid programming background. One important advantage of Python is that it provides large standard libraries which can be imported and used directly, such as Pygame for making games, Django for building interactive websites and so on.

In this one-day course, the basic syntax of Python will be introduced. As the course is intended for IMPRS students, content is focused on data analysis and visualization. Depending on time availability, we may explore more in other interesting Python libraries.
