The International Max Planck Research School for Analysis, Design and Optimization in
Chemical and Biochemical Process Engineering in Magdeburg (IMPRS)

invites applications for

Ph.D. students

The IMPRS Magdeburg is a joint initiative of the
Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the
Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg.

At the interface of mathematics and engineering, the research projects of the IMPRS Magdeburg focus on

MODELING TECHNICAL AND BIOLOGICAL PROCESSES

with emphasis on mathematical and systems theoretical
or applied and experimental aspects:
  • to identify systems structures
  • to investigate process behavior
  • to design technical processes for specific tasks
  • to characterize challenging technical processes experimentally
  • to solve mathematical problems related to these technical applications


What we offer
Depending on the qualification and personal situation the successful candidates will receive either a working contract (full position, on the basis of TVöD/L) for 2 years plus 1 year of possible extension or a scholarship for 2 years plus 1 year of possible extension.
The scholarship is free of tax and social insurance.

Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities at the Max Planck Institute and the University of Magdeburg. A broad selection of basic and advanced lectures and seminars for education and training completes the Research School.
Additionally, courses are offered on information literacy, scientific writing and presenting, and German as a foreign language.

What we expect
We are looking for outstanding young international and German scientists from
  • engineering sciences as well as
  • mathematics,
  • biology,
  • chemistry and
  • physics.
The PhD students should hold an excellent recent university degree equivalent to a Master or Diploma degree from a German university. You should bring motivation and interest to integrate into the interdisciplinary character of research in the IMPRS.
Good English language skills are mandatory.
