Poweraware High Performance Computing

Poweraware High Performance Computing

The trend "faster, bigger and more powerful" that has been followed in the establishment of high performance computers over the past few decades has led to the fact, that the largest of those machines today basically require their own power plants. Over the recent years a new research direction has emerged that tries to overcome this problem. It is in its broadest sense part of the green computing branch that tries to minimize the annual costs of large computing facilities by lowering the energy consumption of the components used. Power-aware HPC goes one step further and tries to make energy-aware components from completely different fields accessible for HPC.
