Prof. Dr. Ing. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern is under the World’s Top 10 Medicine Makers

April 26, 2018

Prof. Dr. Ing. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern, Director and Head of the research group Physical and Chemical Foundations of Process Engineering at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg, has been elected under the top 10 of the Power List 2018 of the British journal "The Medicine Maker". The annual Power List names the top 100 inspirational professionals who contribute, in various ways, to the life-changing work carried out by the biopharmaceutical research and industry.

The Medicine Maker has released its 2018 Power List of the top one hundred most influential professionals in medicine. The process engineer Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern is one of the few Germans in the field of basic science being among the Top 10 in the category „Masters of Bench“.

Recently, Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern with his team and researchers around Peter H. Seeberger at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam-Golm have developed a new method, in which they use substances from plant waste to produce artemisinin. Artemisinin is an important component of the most effective anti-malaria drugs, and research is also being carried out on its potential use in the treatment of cancer. The new process, which can be industrialized on a massive scale, promises increased and low-cost production. For this reason, it is being industrialized by ArtemiFlow, a start-up established by Max Planck researchers, in Kentucky, USA.

"The Medicine Maker"
The Medicine Maker is a global magazine focused on the development and manufacture of both pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical products. It releases an annual Power List of the top 100 inspirational industry professionals and divides them into four categories: Masters of the Bench, Industry Influencers, Business Captains, and Champions of Change. The illustrious members of each group contribute, in various ways, to the life-changing, and often life-saving, work carried out by the biopharmaceutical industry. The Medicine Maker 2018 Power List was compiled based on nominations from readers and the input of an expert judging panel.
