Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems

The Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg is one of 83 institutes belonging to the Max Planck Society (MPG) for the Advancement of Sciences e.V. It is the first engineering institute established by the Max Planck Society bridging engineering-oriented fundamental research and industrial application. The institute has nine research groups and various scientific service groups working closely together on different interdisciplinary projects in engineering, chemistry, information technology, biology and mathematics. Currently, the institute employs about 240 people.

Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg has a distinctive profile. It aims to create a lean and sharply-defined structure with its main focus of expertise in the traditional areas of engineering, the natural sciences and medicine. It also views economics and management and the social sciences and humanities as essential disciplines for a modern university in the information age. The University sees its main task as raising the standard of education and scholarship through teaching and research.

Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, is a vibrant hub of trade and services and offers an attractive research and science landscape around the Otto von Guericke University and the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal. About 18.000 young people study in Magdeburg. Due to the Port of Science (Wissenschaftshafen) and its Denkfabrik as well as innovative start-up centres and application-oriented research institutes, Magdeburg has made a name for itself as an innovative science and research location.
